November 2004, Presho South Dakota, Doing what we love with the people enjoy doing it with.
|
A little relaxation time after another successful hunt near Presho SD. We did not have one single day that our hunters did not all get their full bag limit in 2004. It is not uncommon to see in excess of 100 pheasant in the air at one time. Bagging your birds would seem easy with these kind of numbers, but beware; the Ringneck Pheasant did nto survive in the great numbers that they are today by being easy picking. To bag a pheasant, one must be a quick, true and steady shot, and then have a good dog to locate them once they are on the ground. A downed bird is still a long way from being in the bag. This is where the fun and challenge kicks into high gear as Greg and Rick along with their faithful posse accept the challenge of successfully locating and retrieving the downed bird. For someone who has never had the fortunate opportunity to watch such a spectacle unfold, the experience will last a lifetime. As hunting guides, we witness this scenario unfold somtimes on several occasions a day, and the thrill never subsides. If you have never hunted behind a trained retriever, do yourself a favor and book the hunt of the lifetime behind a North Country Retriever.
